CES 2011: Skype buys Qik (Developing)

by Jon Rettinger | January 6, 2011January 6, 2011 10:51 am PDT

Live from the Skype keynote at CES, it has just been reported that VOIP giant Skype has purchased Qik, of video chatting fame.  This will position Skype extremely well to dominate burgeoning mobile video chatting industry.  Price has not been disclosed, but it is believed to be in the $100 million range.   They are not announcing a rebranding of Qik at this time.

When TechnoBuffalo’s own Sean Aune asked Skype CEO Tony Bates about the purchase price, he responded , “That’s a private transaction.” We still believe the price to be in the $100 million range, but that is not confirmed.

The deal closed this morning.

This story is developing, and will be updated as information comes in.
