Is an iOS 5 jailbreak available? Yes… and no. Depends on the device type you have, which model, and whether you’re okay with tethering or not, among other things. But with so many factors in the mix now, it can be tough for even seasoned jailbreakers to keep it all straight, much less the inexperienced. Why, oh why can’t someone step in and help sort this all out?
Well someone has, in the form of this handy dandy chart. Now, finding out if you can jailbreak your iOS device is as easy as a quick peep on the color-coded table. The table, created by Lifehacker based on the original concept by BigBoss, is sort of a KISS visual (“Keep It Simple, Stupid”), so it’s more like a dumbed-down visual aid with one purpose — to tell you if you can jailbreak or not based on the latest info. (And if you see a green square for your device, you can hop over here to look up a tutorial.)
Here’s what you need to know about this chart: First, the color coding is basic — red is a no-go, yellow means there’s only a tethered jailbreak available and green means you’re good to go. Second, this is based on the latest exploits for the time being, but things can change at a moment’s notice. And finally, if you’re rocking an iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.3, you’ll have to go the JailbreakMe route if you want to hack that puppy. (Do not attempt to use Redsn0w.)
So with that said, I give you the Jailbreak Chart. It’s a biggie, so be sure to click on the graphic to expand it.
