Rumor: Apple To Release Three Versions Of The iPad 2

We haven’t even flipped the calendar over to 2011 yet, but the rumors of the iPad 2, which many believe will go on sale in April, are coming at such a fast furious pace that you can barely keep up with them.

Lets just do a quick rundown of what we have heard already:

Apple logoIt seems we can’t go more than a few days without a rumor.

The newest one comes from DigiTimes, which seems to be the source of every Apple rumor under the sun.  If true, it seems Apple will be adding a third version to the current Wi-Fi and 3G models in the form of a UMTS unit.  Like CDMA, UMTS is another technology used by various carriers, so this would simply mean that it would be an iPad for another group of cellular providers beyond those currently supported.

There is no word on which countries or carriers may see this model, but the rumor goes on to say the the Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA build ratio is expected to be 3:4:3, meaning the most will be built for the new frequency.

The idea of a third model  goes slightly against Apple’s usual simplicity concept, but if it means selling a few million more units, why not?

Everything still appears to be on track for an early April release for the iPad 2, and as an added bonus, the rumors go on to say that the screen is getting a once over so it isn’t as reflective and will work better out in sunlight.  We’ll believe that when we see it.

What say you?  Are you ready for the iPad 2?
