Is Facebook Working To Add Skype Video Chat?

It would seem that Facebook and Skype have really taken a liking to one another. In Sept. they joined forces by allowing the popular VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service to integrate with Facebook, and this was followed a few weeks later by integration being added into the newest version of the Skype desktop client.  However, it appears that the lovefest between the two companies is not quite over yet as a developer found some interesting evidence that appeared briefly in the Facebook development system.

Tal Ater was working on the Green Any Site Facebook app when he came across a new entry that simply said “VideoChat”.  Opening it up, he found several markers that showed it involved Skype.  (click image for a larger view)

He documents that the entry has been appearing and re-appearing seemingly at random, so it is definitely not ready for rollout as of yet, but Facebook is definitely playing around with it.

Skype recently revealed that 40 percent of its traffic in the first six months of this year came from video calls, so it seems reasonable that the addition would be made to the Facebook functionality.  People love it, why not give it to them?  And, of course, Facebook like anything that keeps you on their site as long as humanly possible.

What say you?  Would you use Skype video chat inside of Facebook if this comes to be?
