There has been a lot of arguments over how the Android operating system (OS) is out pacing Apple’s iPhone, but many people have been saying it is all about the number of handsets. Lets face it, Apple puts out one handset a year, and Android based phones are coming out at the rate of … what … a kajillion a day? Of course the Google backed system is going to end up winning finally just based on sheer volume.
GigaOm came out with this infographic (click for a larger view) that perfectly demonstrates the issue. As you look at the top ten phones, look at the difference between first and second place: a difference of 33.1 percent. There is no denying that the iPhone is the king of smartphones right now, but wouldn’t it be nice to see a truly fantastic Android handset come out that at least got into double digit market share. Will it ever happen? Who knows, but I think it would go a long way to hushing up some critics.
