Toys R Us iPod Trade In Program

Well this news makes me scratch me head to say the least.  Last week Toys R Us announced that they are implementing an iPod trade in program for a limited time.  From October 17th to October 23rd 2010 the embattled toy retailer will offer consumers a Toys R Us gift card up to $100 in exchange for you old iPod.  Now the press release didn’t specify what models would be accepted or if they needed to be in fair, good or excellent condition, but I would suspect that an first Gen iPod Touch would certainly fetch more than a first Gen Nano.

Toys R UsIt also isn’t clear  if the gift card is good toward any merchandise, or if you needed to use it to buy a new iPod. Calls to Toys R Us Corporate office didn’t yield any clarification.  Keep in mind not all stores are participating so I think it is safe to say that this may be some sort of test to gauge marketability or the possibility of Toys R Us carrying the iPad.  Considering the increased distribution partnerships Apple has announced with Walmart and Target, this is something to keep an eye on for sure.

I suggest you call your store before making the trek down to see the big giraffe ,Jeffery, and confirm your location is participating. If your household is anything like mine and you tend to hold onto your old iPods, it may be worth some effort checking out this very limited trade in offer.  With the holidays just around the corner it could help you save a couple bucks.
