Playstation 3 owners can rejoice as they celebrate that they can watch Netflix without inserting a disc.

According to Netflix Instant Streaming, starting Monday, users will be able to access their services via the console’s XrossMediaBar.  As well, the PlayStation 3 will be the first device to support Netflix’s 5.1-channel surround sound on Netflix content including television shows and movies.

The company said that since the app will run natively on the console, people will be able to use the analog stick on their PlayStation 3 controller to move the app around. Sony also said that “dramatic improvements” have been made on content load times.

Sony noted that the free Netflix application must be installed in able for the disc-less streaming to work.  After that, owners will be able to use a new interface that includes features like search.

Previously, the Xbox 360 devices by Microsoft was the only console offering native Netflix streaming.  The PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii had required a disc to be inserted to run Netflix.
