Normally here at the Flashback Friday column we reach way back in time to pull up videos of the odd, and now funny, bits of technology history, but once in a while something not all that old becomes quickly relevant.
While the Microsoft Courier was never really an official product, it sure set tongues to wagging when images, and eventually this video, surfaced online. Tablets are getting hotter by the minute it seems, and for whatever reason, Microsoft kept this device a complete secret … until they came out and said it was canceled.
It’s rather curious that not only was Microsoft well on its way to joining the tablet war, but it also seemed to be a great concept. The idea of being able to mix input styles, dragging anything you wanted into to projects and so on could have made this easily one of the leading tablets on the market.
Hopefully some day we’ll hear the story of what exactly went on with this project, but it’s sad to see such an interesting device be relegated to a footnote in history before it even got a chance to flourish.
