Netflix Comes To The iPhone And iPod Touch

The Netflix app is already one of the most popular amongst users of the Apple iPad, but iPhone and iPod Touch users have been left out in the cold when it comes to mobile viewing. Luckily Netflix has not forgotten you, and now you can fulfill that need you have to watch Time Barbarians while commuting to work each morning on the train.

Netflix App iconThe Netflix app [iTunes link] has now launched for both the iPhone and iPod Touch and requires iOS 3.1.3 or later to run.  It only runs 6.5 MBs in size, and will work on both Wi-Fi and 3G, so it is a truly mobile movie viewing experience.  It does require a subscription to the service which runs as low as $8.99 a month for unlimited video streaming.  Of course, if you are on the new AT&T data plan for the iPhone 4, this would be a quick way to suck your montly data allotment.

“Apple has changed the game for mobile devices,” said Reed Hastings, Netflix co-founder and chief executive officer. “We’re excited that our members can now carry Netflix around in their pockets and instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed from Netflix right to their iPhone or iPod touch.”

We’re not sure how badly you want to watch movies on the size screen both these devices offer, but with the iPhone 4’s Retina display (and presumably the iPod Touch receiving the same next week), it shouldn’t be a totally horrible experience.

What say you?  Are you ready to stream movies at any given time?
