Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR) was first announced as an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from BioWare in Oct. 2008, and now it looks we’l finally see it released in the first or second quarter of 2011. I’m ready for this game to come out at this point just so we can all stop talking about it. With this long of a development window, it feels like I can’t remember hen we weren’t discussing this upcoming game.
This latest video was release to coincide with Star Wars Celebration V currently happening in Orlando, FL and it shows off some of the different skills and actions that people who choose to be a Jedi can play around with.
For those who haven’t followed the development process, this game does follow the timeline established in the two Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, taking place some 300 years after those games, and 3500 years before the films we are all familiar with. You will be able to choose numerous different races and classes you can explore the galaxy with, and you will also be issued a starship upon signing up. (If only life worked like that and you were issued a car upon birth!)
Only time will tell if this game will fare better than the other MMORPG based in the same universe, Star Wars Galaxies. While it is still running, it never quite lived up to the expectations of everyone in the gaming community.
What say you? Are you excited for SWTOR?
