Street Fighter And Tekken To Battle In Two Separate Games

While San Diego Comic Con began life as, well, a comic book convention, over the years it has turned into a mass media pop culture show with anime popping up in the 1990’s, and the first decade of the century being taken over TV show and movie promotions.  Well, it appears that video game companies are now jumping into the mix to make huge announcements.

It used to be that all major video game announcements were made at E3, but considering the bombshell that was dropped at the Comic Con this weekend, that is no longer the case.

Can we say Street Fighter X Tekken?  Oh, and Tekken X Street Fighter?

Street Fighter X Tekken

Before you jump out of your skin at the idea of the two biggest names in fighting games taking on one another, just know that it is going to be a while before they’re released. Absolutely no release date has been announced yet, so I’d say this year is out for sure, but 2011 might be possible depending how far into the development process they are.

All that aside, Joystiq is reporting that Capcom is developing Street Fighter X Tekken using the new Street Fighter IV engine.  If that wasn’t enough, Bandai Namco will be working with Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada to release Tekken X Street Fighter.

Both games will be released for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

What say you?  Are you ready for Chun-Li vs. Nina Williams?
