Tomorrow is the official launch date of the iPhone 4 in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and Japan. Although pre-orders from Apple sold out on day 1, there will still be stock for those who wait in line. But there’s still a significant number of potential buyers looking to get their hands on the currently unavailable white iPhone 4, many of which aren’t being suckered into picking up the black model for launch day’s sake. So will ANY white iPhones make it into the wild tomorrow?
Apple’s still listing the white model as “currently unavailable for pre-order or in-store pickup” but there still remains the possibility that they’ll be available in very limited quantities come launch. Boy Genius Report uncovered this Wal-Mart listing for the white iPhone 4 that directs potential buyers in store for availability. Commenters below claim to have called several stores (Best Buys included) and were told that white iPhone would indeed be in stock for Thursday’s launch. Sketchy but possible?
It seems odd that Apple has kept quiet on the topic since it was announced earlier this month during Steve’s keynote. There can’t be much secrecy at stake here considering the product has already been unveiled. If you’re looking to get your hands on a white iPhone 4, your best bet is to call around and ask. Don’t let them be mistaken though, as the iPhone 4 box looks awfully tricky wrapped in white.
I know the white iPhone is real, but will we see it this Thursday? Are you waiting for the white model? If you call around, be sure to let us know what you hear. We’ll do the same.
Update: Apple says mid July.
“White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.”
