Here We Go… An iPhone on Sprint?

It’s almost that time of the year when we’re greeted with Apple’s annual announcement of new iPhone hardware.  You know what that means!  The iPhone rumor mill will now churn out more speculation than we know how to handle.  This weekend Sprint joined the action.

The Verizon iPhone rumor is almost as old as the iPhone itself, but it seems the smaller carriers want in on the action too.  MacRumors reports on three occasions that lead to a possible iPhone tied to Sprint.  MacRumors themselves have been hearing whispers from above that Sprint may get their hands on the iPhone likely around the September timeframe when Verizon is rumored to be picking up the handset.

James Kendrick of the GigaOm Network was also told by a source that “has been reliable in the past and works for Sprint” that the handset should be making it Sprint this summer.  He himself is skeptical but it’s really anyone’s guess when we’ll see the iPhone make its way to Sprint.

TechUpdate’s source comes from a Best Buy employee out of Pennsylvania that says they’re expected to receive the shelf display “within a week or two.”  Don’t go putting too much weight on this source, it’s an unconfirmed Best Buy employee that’s unlikely to have inside knowledge in this department.

So what do you think?  Will we see a simultaneous Verizon/Sprint launch this summer or early fall?  Is that something you might be waiting for?  Let us know what you make of it in the comments.
