Proof of iChat Found in OS 4.0 Firmware?

by Jon Rettinger | April 18, 2010April 18, 2010 10:47 pm PDT

screen-shot-2010-04-18-at-93451-pmWe just received a tip that further solidifies the presence of iChat in the next iteration of the iPhone.  When the $.99 memory monitoring app Free Memory Lite (the name can be deceiving)  is run on a device with the beta 4.0 firmware, a very interesting  (and not very discrete) process is shown called “iChatAgent.”  This can easily be replicated on any iPhone running the beta firmware.  Sometime the best hiding place is right out in the open.

Whether a mobile version of iChat makes its way into the next iPhone is yet to be seen, but the evidence sure is mounting for a front facing camera, or at the very least, a built in instant messaging client.  What do you think? Is this all the proof you need?

[Thanks Cameron]

Update: Engadget ran a similar story back on the 9th, but as far as we can tell, this is the first time the results can be easily replicated.
