Using VNC on the iPad to Access Another Computer

This is a really neat way to use the iPad. Thanks to the large screen, it makes a terrific remote desktop client that you can use with both a Mac and a PC. You just need a VNC client installed on your server computer (for Windows, try TightVNC which is free). Then, using the iPad app Desktop Connect (about $13), plug in the password for your VNC, plus the IP address of the host machine. You may have to add an exception to port 5900 in your firewall program to get it to work.
