Get your wallets out, PlayStation 3 owners are in for a massive treat. All those PSN titles you've been staying away from due to a lack of fundage have been reduced by 50%.

In honor of 2011, Sony has picked a sample of 11 titles to discount. The sale officially starts today, Tuesday, January 25th, as soon as the PSN store updates. Fans of the service know the update time can be rather elusive, so strap in and… wait.

The games in question:

  • Costume Quest – $7.49 sale price; $14.99 regular price
  • Deathspank Thongs of Virtue – $7.49 sale price; $14.99 regular price
  • Hoard – $7.49 sale price; $14.99 regular price
  • Soldner-X2: Final Prototype – $6.49 sale price; $12.99 regular price
  • MotorStorm 3D Rift – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Peggle – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Space Invaders Infinity Gene – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Swords and Soliders – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Tumble – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Comet Crash – $4.99 sale price; $9.99 regular price
  • Shatter – $3.99 sale price; $7.99 regular price

I can honestly attest to the glory of several games on that list. Sort of makes me regret buying them when I did. Deathspank, Peggle, Shatter and MotorStorm are all exceptional titles well worth their original price. At half-off, it's in your best interest to consider those that you have missed a mandatory download. Peggle will destroy your free time, Deathspank will have you in stitches and Shatter will make you feel like your at some sort of crazy SHMUP rave.

Costume Quest is Tim Schafer (Psychonauts, Brutal Legend) and Double Fine's recent Halloween release. This silly, turn-based RPG was instantly appealing to my tastes, until I fired up the demo and found the title lacked voice acting. Schafer games are almost always solid gold partially because of the voice work they deliver, so a title with dialogue that fell completely silent was almost awkward and hollow.

That said, at half the cost, Costume Quest (and the other games that surround it) instantly becomes palatable. This sale ends on Monday the 31st. I'm diving in as soon as the update goes down.
