Phone leaks are so often associated with blurry camera photos and screams of “Photoshop!’ from fans.  Well, this time we’re forgoing the usual prototype ambiguity, and we are proud to present you with a first look at the unannounced, and unreleased, Blackberry Bold 9780.  This successor to the Bold 2 (9700) looks very similar to its predecessor, representing an evolutionary design upgrade,  however, the real treats are hidden under the hood.  Leaked specs from August turned out to be dead on, as this business-centric device features:

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Specs

  • 624 MHz Processor
  • OS 6
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 2.44″ HVGA+ display (480 X 360)
  • 5 MPX camera w/ auto-focus and LED flash
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Webkit browser
  • AT&T 3G Bands

Overall, we were very pleased with the Bold 9780.  Performance was outstanding, call quality was superb, and the keyboard is a texters dream.  OS 6 feels natural on a non-touchscreen, but the browser still is lacking.  Webkit or not, it was slow (perhaps pre-release software) and page rendering were not what we’d expect in 2010.  If you were a fan of previous generations of Bolds, the 9780 looks to be just what the doctor ordered.
