Do you have a cluttered, unorganized iTunes music library?
In this 3 part How-To guide, I am going to show you how to organize, your Music, Movies and TV Shows inside iTunes and with 3rd party applications.
Step 1: Have content to tag
Downloading from iTunes gives you all the info, however if you are downloading from a different music sources such as Limewire, Amazon, Etc, most of the time it does not come with any other info besides the name of the song and artist.
Step 2: Transfer content to iTunes
Once you have downloaded some music drag it to your desktop
(Make sure that you have a supported iTunes format, Currently iTunes 9 only supports MP3, AIFF,WAV, MPEG-4, ACC(.m4a) and Apple Lossless.)
Step 3: Drag and Drop music into iTunes.
Simply drag and drop your music into iTunes.
Step 4 Locate your music :
Your added music will show up in the “Recently Added” playlist.
Step 5: Chose your way
I am now going to show you two ways to tag your music, 1 way will be a more faster way and another will be a more precise way to. If you want to do the easier way go to step 6 or if you would like to do it more precise then skip to step 7.
Step 6: iTunes tagging method
Selcet the song you want to edit and go to the toolbar within iTunes and click on File > Get Info. This will bring up a window that will let you change the info of your music. You can edit the name of the song, album, artist, track number etc. Once you are done press “Ok.”
Step 7: 3rd Party application method
Go to: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20183/lostify and download Lostify. Once you have installed it to your computer, open it and click on File > Open, then search for the song you have downloaded or drag the media file into Lostify. Once you have your song in Lostify can do a more precise edit to your music such as other artists, release date , copyright info and content advisory tags (Clean/Explicit). Once you are done press “Apply”.
Step 8: Adding album artwork
If you want the cover art to your song you can go within iTunes and click on “Advanced > Get Album Artwork.” iTunes will then prompt you for your iTunes store account. Once you have entered your password then it will start looking for artwork. If it fails to get the artwork you can go to a website called “http://getvideoartwork.com/” which has 1000’s of high quality cover art you can download.
