Microsoft’s Surface for Windows RT is the company’s first attempt at making tablet hardware—to control its own destiny in the burgeoning market. Announced at a surprise summer event in 2012, the device is an expertly designed to showcase the many capabilities of Windows RT, which is a tablet version of the company’s new Windows 8 platform (and therefore, doesn’t run legacy apps).
