Verizon Wireless Data is Down… Again [UPDATE 2]

Verizon is DownIt looks like Verizon is celebrating the close of 2011 with another data outage. Tipsters alerted The Verge that Big red’s data service was down in the Chicago area; the website cross-checked that claim and found LTE data to be down in New York City as well.

This isn’t the first time Verizon Wireless has dealt with such an outage. In fact, the wireless company experienced a similar occurrence just last week. With so many high-profile phones hitting – Droid Razr, HTC Rezound, Galaxy Nexus – in the past few months, it’s unfortunate to see Verizon’s network go down twice in the span of a week. Currently the company covers more than 200 million Americans with its LTE service.

Are you experiencing an outage right now? Which city are you in?

Update: Verizon has released a statement assuring customers it is looking into the matter.

We are investigating reports of some customers experiencing trouble accessing the 4G LTE network. The network itself continues to operate and all customers continue to be able to make calls, send text messages and utilize data services. 3G devices are operating normally.

Update #2: Verizon has now confirmed via its Twitter account that LTE is back up and running all over the nation.
