Samsung announced on Thursday that it has officially shipped 20 million units of its ultra popular Galaxy S II smartphone in just 10 months. The company hit the 1 million units shipped milestone after just 24 days. It also sold more than 5 million Galaxy S II units in the first three months the phone was on store shelves and 10 million during the first five months of availability. Iterations of the Galaxy S II are available internationally and the phone is available on Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and U.S. Cellular in the United States.

Samsung surpassed Apple as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer in October when it said it shipped 20 million smartphones in the quarter ended September, 30th, 2011. Apple shipped 17.1 million iPhones during the same period. We’re expecting Samsung’s Galaxy S III to be another homerun. The device is expected to pack a quad-core processor but, unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as though Samsung will announce the phone during Mobile World Congress next week.
