Tech Brands Make An Apperance In Spears’ Newest Video

Britney Spears isn’t just pimping herself in her latest video “Hold It Against Me,” she’s also showing off products by Sony, and encouraging viewers to look for their next love on dating site Plenty of Fish.

During the video (posted above) Spears is raised through a tower of Sony monitors and televisions. The Sony logo is definitely shown off quite a bit – sometimes taking up the whole screen – and makes an appearance much more than it would if there wasn’t at least a little cash headed Britney’s way for doing so. The dating site product placement? Also a little awkward.

Spears’ video is one of several recent product placement attempts by tech brands to get their products seen. What better way to get people to want something than convince them it’s a favorite of a celebrity? For instance, Lady Gaga also pimped Plenty of Fish in one of her latest videos as well as Virgin Mobile, and Chad Ochocinco headed to the Superbowl with a Xoom under his arm thanks to Motorola.

Product placement certainly isn’t a new thing, but it is kind of new for the tech industry to be doing it. What do you think about it? Good idea? Or shameless promotion?
