Hackers Unite for the Greater Good Next Week
Hacks can get a pretty bad rap, sending shivers down the spines of privacy and security advocates the world over. But malicious attacks don’t always have to be the raison d’être, do they? Next month, they won’t be: Tech virtuosos will be converging in 18 major cities across the globe to put their innovative concepts and deft fingers to good use via the third annual “Random Hacks of Kindness” (RHoK) on June 4th and 5th.
In this case, “hacker” is defined pretty loosely — all you need is a laptop and some mad brainstorming abilities, and you’re in the club. It’s a pretty inclusive affair: The theme is “Hacking for Humanity,” as this grassroots multi-city conference focuses on creative solutions aimed at easing the world’s ills. So any attendee may suggest a problem that’s solvable by technology — like tornado notification and brush fire command systems — and everyone’s invited to help develop solutions.
