LG Announces the Optimus 2 – A Budget Android Smartphone
If you can’t understand the need for a dual-core processor in your pocket, and you’re happy to use a good old-fashioned point-and-shoot for taking your snaps, then LG may have the perfect Android smartphone for you. The Korean company has today announced the Optimus 2, a budget-friendly phone that takes things back to basics.
The device — which we had expected LG to unveil at CES next week — features an 800MHz processor which powers the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, a 3.2-inch display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus, and around 179 MB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card. There’s also a 1,500 mAh battery which promises 5 hours of talk-time, and a 2 GB microSD card included.
Other features include Swype for quick and easy typing on that capacitive display, Bluetooth 3.0, and GPS.
LG hasn’t yet announced a release date for those of us in the U.K., but TechRadar reports the device is already available in the U.S. While the Optimus 2 may not be LG’s latest flagship smartphone, it may be perfect for those who want their smartphone to be nothing more than a smartphone.
