AT&T Ups Early Upgrade Fee From $75 To $200 For Smartphones

You know that new Android phone you have your eye on? Not that one, it was announced on Tuesday, so it’s already outdated. The one that came out Wednesday. Yeah, that one. Remember how you got a new smartphone six months ago on AT&T, but you’re dying to have this one? Well, get ready to add $200 on to your upgrade price to get it, suckers.

According to Boy Genius Report, AT&T is upping its early upgrade fee from $75 to $200 on smartphones. Feature phones and other basic phones will not be impacted by the pricing change.  As the below image shows, upgrading to a BlackBerry Torch will now run you $399.99 as opposed to the $274.99 it would have cost you in the pass.  But, hey, that’s a $100 savings off of just buying it off of the shelf!

This isn’t too surprising with Verizon upping their early termination fee to $375 recently, so it is best to take a deep breath and put a little extra thought into the next phone you are making a two year commitment to.
