Barnes & Noble Drops Nook Color Price To $199, Updates Simple Touch Reader
Along with its announcement of the Nook Tablet this morning, Barnes & Noble dropped the price of its traditional Nook Color down to $199. The Nook Color was previously priced at $249, a price-point now occupied by the Nook Tablet.
The Nook Color will also get some of the same new functionality that is coming to the Nook Tablet for free, via an over-the-air update in the coming weeks.
In addition to dropping the price of the Nook Color, Barnes & Noble also updated its entry-level e-reader, the Nook Simple Touch. The Nook Simple Touch price tag drops to just $99, and the reader was updated to include a new e-text rendering platform B&N claims offers the fastest page turning (25% faster in fact) of any e-reader. The update (which is available now as a download for existing owners) is also expected to extend battery life battery to a whopping 2 months on a single charge (reading one hour a day).
What do you think? Anyone thinking about picking up a Nook Color or updated Nook Simple Touch? What about the new Nook Tablet?
