Barnes & Noble Announces The Nook Tablet

We heard the rumors, and now Barnes & Noble has made its Nook Tablet official. The tablet shares the same form-factor as its older brother the Nook Color (including its 7” screen) while updating a lot of what’s under the hood to turn it into a pretty snazzy tablet.

The Nook Tablet will measure in at  8.1″ x5″ x 0.48″ and come sporting a 1GHz dual-core OMAP4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with SD expansion (up to 32GB), and 802.11b/g/n WiFi, comes with Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Pandora built-in, and 9-hours of video watching or 11 hours of reading time on a single battery charge.

Pre-orders for the $249 tablet start today, with shipments going out on November 16th.

The Kindle Fire is the Nook Tablet’s biggest direct competition. The Fire, which is made by Amazon, is expected to start shipping a day earlier than the Nook Tablet on November 15. Amazon has already reported stellar pre-sales of the device, which have required it to make “millions” more Fire tablets than originally expected.
