Twitter Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary (Infographic)

Twitter turned 5 yesterday. The service, which was originally launched in 2006 as an SMS-based application called Twttr and has since topped over 200 million individual accounts posting 350 billion tweets a day. I joined Twitter in February 2007. The site’s name had officially changed to Twitter, was still in beta form, and was still new enough I could score @emily as my username. Little did we all know how huge the site would become in just 5 years.

In celebration of Twitter’s birthday, Visual.ly made this infographic showing the history of the site and its growth.
