.XXX Domain Names Go On Sale Today

Starting today you can pick up your own.xxx domain name, assuming you’re a registered trademark or brand holder.

Sales start today for just trademark and brand owners (think McDonalds or Motorola) for about $200 a pop. XXX domains are a one-time purchase, unlike traditional domains that are paid for yearly. The domains will be on sale for 50-days exclusively for trademark and brand holders, in an attempt to prevent cybersquatting.

After the 50 days are up, the domains will go up for sale for entertainment industry for 17 days, before then being available for the general public.
