Anonymous Responds to Megaupload Takedown

Anonymous TwitterAs of writing this, an Anonymous affiliated Twitter account is listing a roster of websites the hacker collective is taking down (or has taken down already). With hashtags of #OPMEGAUPLOAD and #SOPA, the Twitter feed is in continuous update mode right now, with sites falling like flies: FBI.gov, whitehouse.gov, universalmusic.fr, justice.gov, hadopi.fr, just to name a few. An Internet war, it seems, has been ignited, and this is probably just the beginning.

On the heels of Megaupload’s demise, Anonymous is flexing its Internet muscle at any and all government or content corporation by taking their online presences down, probably through DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. Such wide ranging attacks prove that the Internet, and its users, cannot be controlled. What affect these attacks will have remains to be seen.
