Strange Nintendo 3DS Slidepad Add-On Becomes Official
Remember that rather dodgy-looking add-on for the Nintendo 3DS that introduced a second slide pad to the device? It first popped up in a Japanese gaming magazine earlier this month, but at a pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference in Japan today, Nintendo “let slip” that the attachment really is on its way.
Nintendo used the presser to talk about a “misty pink” version of its 3DS console that will be aimed at the ladies. It seems that the only people playing the glasses-free 3D handheld at the moment are us gents, and so Nintendo is seeking to attract a few more females to its fan base with a prettier device — and a new selection of girly games.
However, Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, also mentioned the “Slidepad,” which is now being advertised on the company’s Japanese home page with a shipping date of December 10, and a price tag of ¥1,500 (approx. $19.50).
The website also reveals a list of games that will support the attachment, along with their release dates (in Japan):
- Monster Hunter Tri G — Capcom — December 10, 2011
- Biohazard Revelations — Capcom — early 2012
- Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D — Konami — this winter
- Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble — Namco Bandai — this winter
- Dynasty Warriors VS — Tecmo Koei Games — 2012
- Kingdom Hearts 3D — Square Enix — undecided
I’ll certainly be one of the first in the U.K. to slap one of these things on my Nintendo 3DS to add a second slide pad, but I have to say, Nintendo really didn’t spend a lot of time of making this add-on look pretty. I mean, did it really need to be that big and that ugly?
But maybe that big and bulky look is for something nice and practical? A built-in battery, for example, that will give our 3DS some (much-needed) additional battery life? Nope! The attachment is powered by a single AAA battery instead.
What do you think of the Nintendo 3DS Slidepad? Will you buy one?
