Insomniac Games Officially Done with Resistance

Resistance 3 will be the last Resistance game ever made by the franchise creator and developer, Insomniac Games.

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games, delivered the news plainly and simply to VG247 during the Game::Business::Law Summit earlier today:

“We won’t be making any more Resistances…”

And that, as they say, is that.

Insomniac Games will be sticking with the Ratchet & Clank franchise, of course. They’ll also be moving on to new projects outside of PlayStation exclusivity. The company is currently working on Overstrike, its first multiplatform title. That game is set to release this summer for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be published by EA.

If you’re a fan of the Resistance brand, I wouldn’t count Sony out of making any more properties in the series. Resistance: Burning Skies, for instance, is being developed by Nihilistic Software for the PlayStation Vita and will release this summer.

Further than that, Insomniac’s Creative Director Marcus Smith told Gaming Union back in August of last year that Sony could totally give the franchise to a new studio:

“We’ve got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer.”

So, Insomniac is done with Resistance; but, that doesn’t mean Resistance is done.
