Get ready CS fans, Valve has gone and announced a brand new Counter-Strike.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, currently being coined CS: GO, will be available in early 2012 for the PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. The PC and Mac versions, of course, will be sold through the Steam marketplace.

Originally, rumors started swelling this morning as sites like Joystiq were reporting that anti-cheat gaming groups and testers were Tweeting about having spent the morning playing a brand new Counter-Strike title. Those rumors didn’t have long to fester as Valve made them official by putting out a brief press release.

Within that release were words from Doug Lombard, Valve’s Vice President of Marketing. Lombard looks to make fans a promise with news of this new entry in the Counter-Strike franchise.

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999…

For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

The game will be playable for convention goers at PAX Prime in Seattle. According to the release, fans can look to see both new and classic goods:

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is being “targetted” for an early 2012 release date. Prepare yourselves for a minor delay. Why? Because this is Valve. We mean that in the nicest way possible.
