New XBox 360 Controller, Unveiled!

Microsoft will be releasing a new XBox 360 controller in November that will feature a transforming D-pad, the company announced on Tuesday.

Some of the differences users will find include the new wireless controller design.  Instead of the typical white finish with multicoloured buttons, the new controller will feature a gray and black finish and the buttons will follow suit with different tones of gray.

The New D-pad is reportedly going to attract some new users as “Major Nelson,” Microsoft’s director of programming for Xbox Live, who first unveiled the new controller in a blog post and video, said that users “are not big fans of the D-pad” on the Xbox 360 controller. They will be addressing this issue by letting Xbox 360 owners twist the D-pad’s disc to appeal to gamers and at one position, the D-pad will be nearly flushed with the disc behind it.  With an ease of a twist, the D-pad is raised much higher, increasing the usability of the controller for gamers.

The Xbox 360 wireless controller will perform and work exactly the same way.  The update was designed solely to give users a better D-pad.

The new Xbox 360 wireless controller will be available on November 9. It will only be offered in a bundle with Microsoft’s Play and Charge kit and will retail for $64.99.
