Lighter Side of Tech: Models + Kinect = Bizarro Commercial

What is going on here? Have gamers become the target audience of the fashion world?

This Lanvin commercial shows models and other celebs playing Dance Central for Xbox Kinect (to Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me”). Maybe this sounded like a sexy combo in the brainstorming meeting, but in reality… meh. Not so much. The only thing getting crushed here is the fun factor, thanks to the awkward, lanky movements of singer Karen Elson, designer Alber Elbaz and others. They don’t seem hip or ultra cool — they look tired and labored here, like maybe they ought to have more than just water and a stick of Extra gum for lunch.

Learning lesson: Have fun when you’re gaming. And yeah, a sandwich probably wouldn’t hurt either.

I give this commercial a thumbs down — maybe it gives fashion a wee bit of tech cred, but it makes gaming seem about as much fun as a trip to the dentist.

What do you think? Thumbs up (yay, models!) or thumbs down (boring, lame)?
