Games for Windows Marketplace to Launch November 15th

It looks as if Microsoft is looking to make a big splash this holiday season, and if the Kinect for the Xbox 360 is any indication, I think they are well on their way. With the Kinect craze this week there seems to be a press release from Microsoft that has been buried, but I think is a significant development in the gaming industry.

Microsoft will  be debuting an on-demand web store for PC games known as “Games For Windows Marketplace” on November 15th. The initial offering will consist of about 100 titles with a special “Deal of the Week”. Few publishers are know at this point but according to the press release those initial offerings will include: MS Game Studios, 2K Games, Rockstar, and Warner Brothers.

screen-shot-2010-11-05-at-91347-pmThe company touts that the Marketplace will not only be a place for great gaming content, but will be built around quick downloads and fewer clicks from time of purchase to game play. A benefit that gamers will most notably enjoy is the ability to search for games anytime and re-download purchased games if needed. Gamers will need either an Xbox Live gamertag, Zune tag, or Windows Live ID to purchase items from the Marketplace with either a credit card or Microsoft Points.

As mentioned earlier, Microsoft will tout a “Deal of The Week” with other various promotions. Microsoft is demoing the site and giving examples of their deals and the “Deal of The Week” is resident Evil at 50% off or $24.95.

A complete list of games that will be available on November 15th is below:

  • “Fable: The Lost Chapters”
