In addition to a number of new smartphones, Sony has used this week’s CES event in Las Vegas to announce its new Z1000 Walkman series. The device features a large 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen, and comes with 8GB, 16GB, or 64GB of internal storage.

Like Samsung’s Galaxy S Player, Sony’s new Walkman will appeal to Android fans, because it’s powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, offering you full access to the Android Market and over 400,000 third-party applications. Another impressive feature is Sony’s S-Master MX digital amplifier, which has been integrated to balance noise levels and reduce distortion.

While there’s no 3G data connection, you do get Wi-Fi connectivity that not only allows you to browse the web, use internet-connected applications, and download apps; but also take advantage of the new DLNA feature that will stream your content to compatible devices. If don’t have other DLNA-compatible devices, you’ll be pleased to hear the new Walkman also offers a micro HDMI connection.

Other features included a dedicated “W” button, which provides instant access to your music player from anywhere within the device; and SensMe technology that will automatically categorize your music library to suit your mood based on the tempo of each track.

Sony has confirmed the Z1000 series will range from $250 to $330 when it launches in the U.S. this spring.
