It seems Apple isn’t the only smartphone manufacturer that is currently trying to tackle battery life issues on its latest handset. Early adopters of the Nokia Lumia 800, the Finnish company’s debut Windows Phone handset, have created a lengthy forum thread on the Nokia Support Forums that’s filled with reports from disgruntled users who aren’t happy with their battery life on the new device.

Many report that their device won’t even last a day with a full charge. Nokia initially addressed the issue merely with instructions on how to maximize battery life, with suggestions like “switch off the 3G connection,” “lower the display brightness level,” and “close applications you do not use.”

Needless to say, users weren’t happy with this advice and Nokia received further complaints via its forum. However, there is good news for those of you with a Lumia 800: The company has now updated its original statement to say that there are two software updates on the way, which promise to greatly improve your battery life on the new device:

A software update in early December will include improvements to power efficiency, while a second update in early January introduces further enhancements to battery life and battery charging.  Both are planned updates and will be made available via Zune.

It’s unclear why these fixes couldn’t just come in one update, but it’s likely that Nokia wants to address the main issue as quickly as possible, which I suppose is a good thing.
