Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Finally Starts Its Public Roll-Out
iPhone fans aren’t the only ones with good news today, there’s also a little something for those of you in the Windows Phone camp. A little jealous over all the attention Apple has been getting this morning (possibly), Microsoft has finally gone ahead and started its public roll-out of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update.
Users with the HTC HD7, the Samsung Focus and the Dell Venue Pro will be the first to receive the goods, with update notifications expected to hit their handsets “soon,” according to a banner on the Windows Phone website:
“Windows Phone 7.5 (“Mango”) is available to install on some phones now. Look for a notification on your phone soon.”
If you’re itching to get your hands on the update and you’d like to when it’s likely to hit your carrier, you can keep an eye on Microsoft’s ‘Where’s my phone update?’ page. However, the current status for all U.S. carriers reads “Delivering update.” The same can also be said for all carriers outside of the U.S., except for Telefonica in Spain, whose status remains as “Testing.”
Once you receive your notification, you’ll need to plug your Windows Phone handset into your Mac or PC to install the update. You’ll also need the latest version of Microsoft’s Zune software (PC), or its Windows Phone 7 Connector application (Mac). If you have these installed, all you have to do is plug in your device and the software will automatically backup your data before downloading and installing the Mango update, which Microsoft says will take around an hour to complete.
