Kin 1 And Kin 2 Get The Ax

Well, that didn’t take long.

Microsoft has officially given the ax to the Kin 1 and Kin 2 phones after less then three months on the market.  The official statement reads:

kin 1 and kin 2“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”

Just a few weeks ago we I wrote up a piece here about how it was suspicious we weren’t getting any sales reports on the phones.  Some rumors suggest that only 500 of these phones had sold thus far, and even we think that is on the low side, but with the plug being pulled this fast, it is possible.

There is no doubt that Microsoft and Verizon blew the pricing in the early days, and that probably set the tone for the entire lifespan of the devices.

I can’t say I’ll be sad to see the end of those blasted commercials though.

What say you?  Too soon?
