Vodafone Drops HTC’s Evo 3D Before It Even Launches
Those of you eagerly anticipating the release of HTC’s Evo 3D on the Vodafone network may want to prepare yourselves for disappointment before you read on.
Following a number of delays from HTC, Vodafone has decided to drop what would have been the U.K.’s second 3D handset completely. One eagle-eyed customer went looking for the device on the Vodafone website earlier today, but noticed it was no longer there.
TechRadar contacted the carrier to find out why it had vanished and an official spokesperson passed on the bad news — and thought it may be a good time to promote some of Vodafone’s other handsets:
“We’ve decided that due to delays to the launch of the device, we no longer plan to include the EVO 3D in our smartphone range.
“We will be contacting customers who have registered for updates about the device to make them aware of this decision shortly.
“We realise this will come as a disappointment to some people but we already offer some fantastic phones, like the HTC Sensation and Galaxy S2, with some really exciting handsets in the pipeline and we’ll continue to focus on bringing the latest and greatest smartphones to Vodafone customers.”
The Evo 3D was initially set to launch here in the U.K. this month, but retailers like Amazon and Play.com are now advertising a September launch. According to TechCrunch, Vodafone was one of HTC’s key partners for the Evo 3D, and may have had an exclusive deal.
The Evo 3D’s only competitor right now — for those in the U.K. at least — is LG’s Optimus 3D, which is just slightly less impressive on the inside. When it comes to specs, both devices feature a 4.3-inch display and a 5-megapixel camera, however, the Evo 3D has a faster processor at 1.2GHz versus the Optimus’ 1GHz.
