HP Pre 3 Won’t Make it to U.S., But Will Sell for Just $75 in Europe

HP Pre 3

Following the significant reductions made to its TouchPad tablet over the last few days, it seems inevitable that HP will also be slashing the price of its yet to be released Pre 3 smartphone. Just like the TouchPad, the Pre has been discontinued by HP, and although the webOS platform may live on, it’s unlikely there’ll be much support for HP’s devices in the future.

That’s bad news for those of you in the U.S. who were hoping to pick up a Pre 3 anyway. While you may have been the first to enjoy $99 TouchPads, the Pre 3 won’t be arriving in the U.S. at all, according to PCMag. If you’re desperate to get your hands on the device, however, you can get one shipped over from Europe for use on AT&T or T-Mobile, which are the only carriers the Pre 3 will support.

For those of us in Europe, this is awesome news. Like the TouchPad, the Pre 3 is set to be reduced ‘dramatically’ to around $75 (approx. £45/€52) — which is an absolute bargain for a brand new smartphone, despite its pending demise. And of course, because the Pre 3 is a SIM-free smartphone, there’s no carrier commitment required either.

At the time of writing this story, the Pre 3 is currently selling for £299/€349 (approx. $490).

If you’re not already convinced by that ridiculously low price tag, check out the Pre 3′s impressive list of specs, which includes the fastest smartphone processor on the market, according to HP:

HP Pre 3 Specifications:

  • HP webOS
  • Single-core Qualcomm MSM 8×55 processor at 1.4GHz
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 8GB internal storage
  • 3.58-inch multitouch WVGA display (480×800)

I know I’ll be spending most of my day looking for a cheap Pre 3 — will you?
