YouTube Adds Option to Automatically Correct Shaky or Dark Video

Not everyone has access to Hollywood-level film equipment, so oftentimes videos captured spontaneously can suffer from shaky-cam or “augmented-darkness” syndrome. This is especially evident in the thousands of birthday and cat videos on YouTube, but thankfully there’s a fix.

Google is now “improving video awesomeness with one click.” Going forward, when a user uploads a video that’s particularly shaky or dark, YouTube’s new and improved video editor will offer to fix it for the user. Once the video is fixed, an updated version will be created and automatically published on YouTube. Of course, there is an undo option if you don’t like the editor’s changes.

“When you upload a video that could use a fixup, you’ll see a notification bar on the Upload page and in your Video Manager,” Google wrote in a blogpost. “Click the button to fix it, and you’ll see a side by side preview to decide if you want to accept the edits.”

The one-click button option will begin rolling out in the next few days, and it’s ready to cure your video’s shaky and dark afflictions. Stay tuned, because Google promises even more video editing options in the future.
