Samsung Galaxy Smartphone Line is This Year’s Droid
The first handset that put any weight behind Android was last year’s Droid by Motorola. It was everything the iPhone wasn’t: open, cable of multitasking, a built-in hardware keyboard. Since then we’ve seen more than a handful of Android handsets but none of them seemed to be able to grow Android like the Droid did. While the Droid X and Droid 2 likely sold plenty of stock, the latest crown goes to Samsung.
Although there are four seats on Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone roster, only AT&T’s Captivate and T-Mobile’s Vibrant saw a release dates of August 15th and July 28th respectively. Yesterday Samsung revealed the impressive sales numbers behind the two devices surpassed the 1 million mark. Samsung isn’t finished yet as Sprint’s Epic is being unleashed today and Verizon’s Fascinate rumored for an early September release.
All Galaxy S models sport Samsung’s 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 512MB RAM, and 4” Super AMOLED display. Like the iPhone, a more durable Gorilla Glass is used to protect its display, sports a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and includes the latest addition to the smartphone world, a gyroscope. No matter which of the big four carriers you’re on, Samsung’s got a Galaxy S in the pipeline if not released already.
With the Galaxy S Epic being released today and Fascinate sometime in September, expect Samsung’s numbers to climb steadily throughout the month. By the end, don’t be surprised if they easily blow by the 2 million mark as all four devices are put through their paces. Do you already have a Galaxy S?
