Huawei Launches World’s Thinnest Smartphone: Ascend P1 S

Huawei grabbed some early attention first thing this morning by launching the “world’s thinnest smartphone,” the Android 4.0 powered Ascend P1 S. Measuring a scant 6.68 mm front to back, the P1 S is powered by a 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 Cortext-A9 processor and features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED 960 x 540 touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass, according to Huawei PR.

The company also launched the relatively chubby Ascend P1, which packs a larger battery into its 7.69mm profile. We’re hoping to get some hands-on time with both phones later this evening.

Both devices will be available in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East, and China from April 2012.

UPDATE: Both devices also feature Huawei’s custom Android skin, which is the first customization of Ice Cream Sandwich we (or at least I) have seen. The phones also sport capacitive touch buttons on the front panel, a notable difference from the buttonless Samsung Galaxy Nexus (the world’s first ICS device).
