Time Inc has struck a deal with Apple to make iPad versions of its magazines free for those who already subscribe to the print version. Starting today, existing Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and Time magazine subscribers will be able to access the iPad versions of the magazines for free.

The deal is only available to those who have purchased subscriptions to the print magazine – Apple has yet to make a deal with the company on how it might sell an iPad-only subscription. The availability of the magazines at all on the iPad, however, indicates that the companies may be moving closer to some sort of agreement.
