Vodafone Slashes iPhone 4S Prices Before Device Even Launches

Vodafone iPhone 4S pre-orders

I switched from O2 to Vodafone for the iPhone 4S, simply because the way in which O2 has handled pre-orders for the device annoyed me. In fact, O2 hasn’t offered pre-orders it all — it wants customers to stand outside its retail stores in the cold on Friday morning, hoping there’s enough stock to go around.

So, I switched to Vodafone. Vodafone were happy to take my money last Friday, October 7, in return for delivering an iPhone 4S to my door on Friday 14 — while I sit in the warmth drinking copious amounts of coffee and working hard.

And today I’m even happier that I switched, because Vodafone has slashed its iPhone 4S prices before the device has even launched. Prices for the fifth-generation device, with 16GB of storage, now start at £239 (approx. $373) with a £26 (approx. $41) per month contract — saving customers £120 (approx. $187) on the original pre-order price. The 32GB iPhone 4S now starts at £359 (approx. $560), with an £80 (approx. $125) saving, and the 64GB model starts at £449 (approx. $700), with a £70 (approx. $109) saving.

It’s not all good news, however. Vodafone was initially offering customers a £59 credit to their bill, which will be applied in November. That has now ended now following the reduction to iPhone price tags. The customers who will benefit from these changes most are those who pre-ordered their device before Monday. They will get the $59 credit to their bill, and, according to Electricpig, Vodafone will also be contacting customers to offer them the cheaper deals.

The reason for Vodafone’s changes is expected to be due to the late tariff announcements from both O2 and Three, and the increased demand for shorter 12-month and 18-month contracts. For the time being, it seems like Vodafone is one of the best carriers for the iPhone 4S in the U.K., though other networks are expected to adjust their prices shortly to compete.

Which carrier did you choose for your new iPhone?
