Rumor: AT&T’s LTE Equipment Installed in Apple Store

We’ve already heard that carriers could be testing a 4G LTE iPhone, but now there’s a new tidbit to add: A source over at Engadget spotted and snapped a pic of what looks like LTE equipment installed at an undisclosed Apple Store location. Unfortunately, the site took the image down, at the request of its tipster — who either had a change of heart or was compelled to yank it by some other party (say, one that resides in Cupertino, CA, perhaps?).

If this item is true, it would seem that AT&T gets the credit for this. Supposedly some of the equipment uniquely supports the 700MHz and AWS bands — the same ones the carrier will use when its Tmo acquisition gets green-lighted.

The report also suggests that Apple Stores located near this LTE installation is upping their staff by 30 percent. Obviously, Cupertino’s staying mum about all this, but you’ve got to wonder if it’s because the company’s anticipating huge demand once consumers actually see the LTE iPhone in action for themselves.
