Apple Offering Micro USB Adapters for European iPhone Owners

Starting October 14, you can charge your iPhone via Micro USB in Europe. Apple will start selling micro USB adapters for its phones on the 14th, the adapters allows “you to use third-party micro USB cables and chargers to sync or charge your iPhone. Simply connect your iPhone to the Micro USB Adapter, then connect a micro USB cable or charger to the Micro USB Adapter.”

Europe introduced a policy in 2010, requiring all new phones to be able to be charged via micro USB. The rule is designed so to help standardize the way phone’s are charged throughout the EU. While the iPhone 4 was able to bypass the rule based on its release date, Apple must provide a micro USB option along with the iPhone 4S.

You don’t have to have an iPhone 4S to get in on the micro USB charging fun. In addition to the iPhone 4S, the iPhone Micro USB adapter is compatible with the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. You can snag one of your own on October 14th for £8.00.
