iPad 3 Battery Details Emerge, Suggest Thinner Lighter Design

Is everyone ready for the iPad 3 rumors to start? Good.

According to the Taiwan Economic News today, Apple has contracted with Simplo Technology Co. and Dynapack International Technology Corp to produce the batteries for the iPad 3, which will be both thinner and lighter than those used in the current model.

A thinner battery could make way for a retina display on the device, or could mean that the entire tablet slims down.

All Apple rumor eyes are now anxiously awaiting an iPhone 5 announcement, which is expected to come any day now. The iPhone 5 is rumored to be launching next month. The iPad 3, however, will likely not hit store shelves until next year.

What do you think Apple may be doing with the thinner battery? Retina display? Thinner design? More space to hold the magical unicorns?
